Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)

Home health and hospice healthcare organizations must provide proof of visits utilizing Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) technology. Before EVV was introduced, visits could be logged without any proof so Medicaid made a mandatory system that allows providers and caregivers to track visits on the go from a variety of devices. Data such as the date and start time as well as end time of care must be logged, as well as the nature of the service provided and identification of the caregiver.

Monitoring Visits Accurately with Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)

Recording field activities is essential for ensuring your agency is properly reimbursed for care by Medicaid. EVV assists in a variety of ways including the following:

  • Logging Billable Hours Accurately

One of the main factors contributing to wasted resources and increased cost is human error. When time sheets were provided in paper format, caregivers were able to falsify or fail to properly record their hours. With the advent and adoption of EVV, this is no longer an issue. GPS verification assists agencies in verifying that services were rendered at the exact time and place as staff members note with EVV, and the information is gathered in a simple to understand audit log.

  • Avoid Providing Unauthorized Services

EVV helps you avoid providing costly services that will not be approved by Medicaid. The reduction in paper documentation also helps to avoid fraudulent or inaccurate reporting of the services an agency renders. Logging information on the go can help caregivers assess whether the care they are providing is approved and appropriate based on the patient’s care plan.

  • Improves An Agency’s FInancial Accountability

By enabling clinicians and caregivers to engage in real-time, secure communication, agencies can more easily track the quality of care provided to their patients. This is particularly important in home health and hospice care, where care is provided off site and is more difficult to manage.

  • Safer for Workers in the Field by Providing Real-Time Visibility of the Location of Caregivers

GPS tracking enables agencies to more closely monitor and manage the whereabouts of their staff which improves safety. GPS tracking also offers more accurate mileage records so that timekeeping is tracked and managed more efficiently for travel.

  • Improves Scheduling

EVV integrates seamlessly with existing custom scheduling software solutions, making it simple for caregivers to manage their schedules. Improving the daily workflow of caregivers can aid in staff retention and satisfaction as well as overall productivity.
